Getform alternative: Ikiform vs Getform (now Forminit)
Getform is now Forminit. An honest look at Ikiform vs Forminit on plans, limits, files and webhooks, and how to move getform.io forms over.
If you have forms posting to getform.io, you have probably noticed the domain now redirects to forminit.com. Getform renamed itself Forminit in January 2026. Forminit says it is the same independent team, accounts and endpoints carried over, and old endpoints keep working. New forms use a structured naming scheme such as fi-sender-email and fi-text-message.
A rename is a natural moment to check whether the service still fits. This page compares Forminit as it is today with Ikiform, and shows what moving a form takes, from either an old Getform endpoint or a new Forminit one.

Where Getform (Forminit) is the better choice
- You already have getform.io forms and they work. Forminit says existing endpoints keep working, so doing nothing is a valid choice.
- You want a free plan, or file uploads up to 25 MB per submission.
- You want autoresponders, a Python SDK, or built-in Slack, Discord and Google Sheets connections without writing a relay.
- You like structured form blocks that give every submission a known sender shape.
Where Ikiform is the better choice
- You don't want your form to stop accepting posts the moment you pass your limit. Ikiform keeps receiving today, and once billing is on it holds extra posts for 30 days instead of dropping them.
- You want webhooks and the API at the lowest price. They are on every Ikiform tier, including the smallest.
- You want to keep your own field names. Ikiform validates whatever names you choose, with typed rules if you define them.
- You want signed webhook deliveries with a retry schedule and a log you can inspect.
Who should pick which
Stay with Forminit if your Getform forms work and you rely on file uploads, autoresponders or its built-in connections. The rename itself is not a reason to move.
Choose Ikiform if you want webhooks and validation without a higher plan, and a backend that holds posts instead of rejecting them when you hit a limit.
Migrating from Getform (Forminit)
Old Getform forms usually have free-form field names and move by changing the action. New Forminit forms use fi- names, which Ikiform stores as they are, so rename them to plain names while you are in the markup.
Field mapping
| Getform (Forminit) | Ikiform | Notes |
|---|---|---|
action="https://getform.io/f/..." or https://forminit.com/f/... | action="https://ikiform.com/f/frm_..." | Both old and new endpoints map to one Ikiform endpoint per form. |
fi-sender-email | email | Plain email is used as the reply-to in notification emails. |
fi-sender-firstName, fi-sender-lastName | first_name, last_name | Field ids in Ikiform definitions are lowercase snake_case. |
fi-text-message | message | Any name works; keep it in step with your field definition. |
_gotcha | _gotcha | Same honeypot name on both. |
| Redirect in form settings | Redirect after submit or _redirect | Copy the URL across. |
X-API-KEY header for protected forms | Authorization: Bearer ik_sk_... | Secret keys skip the allowed-domains check and the human check for server posts. |
| File inputs | None | Not supported yet. |
Before and after
<form action="https://forminit.com/f/YOUR-FORM-ID" method="POST">
<input type="text" name="fi-sender-firstName" required />
<input type="text" name="fi-sender-lastName" required />
<input type="email" name="fi-sender-email" required />
<textarea name="fi-text-message" required></textarea>
<input type="hidden" name="_gotcha" style="display:none !important" />
<button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>Steps
- Create an Ikiform form and copy the endpoint.
- Optionally define fields (
first_name,last_name,email,message) so the server checks each post. - Change the
actionand rename anyfi-fields to plain names. - Move webhook consumers to Ikiform's payload and signature.
- Export your Getform or Forminit submissions before you cancel.
What doesn't carry over
- File uploads, autoresponders and the Python SDK have no Ikiform equivalent.
- Workspaces and collaborators exist on both, but members and history don't transfer.
FAQ
Is Getform shutting down?
No. Getform was renamed Forminit in January 2026. Forminit says it is the same team and that existing getform.io endpoints keep working without changes.
Do I have to use fi- field names with Ikiform?
No. Ikiform stores whatever names you send. We suggest plain snake_case names, which match the field ids in Ikiform definitions.
What happens on Ikiform when I go over my limit?
Today, submissions are received as usual and you get emails at 80% and 100%. Once billing is switched on, posts between 100% and 2 times the limit are held: visitors see a normal success page and the submissions wait 30 days for an upgrade. Above 2 times the limit, posts are refused with 429 quota_exceeded.
Can I submit from a server with an API key?
Yes. Send Authorization: Bearer ik_sk_... with a secret key that has the submissions:write scope.
